Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service

Overview
We were contracted by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to carry out a comprehensive survey and remedial works on fire doors across eight critical locations. The aim of the project was to restore the fire doors, frames, and adjacent wall areas to their original condition following previous works, ensuring the doors were visually appealing and functional.
While our role was focused on painting and decorating, we worked closely with the service to ensure the surfaces were properly prepared and finished to the highest standard. This project was centred solely on the fire doors, though we have also completed additional works for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, including painting steel exterior structures around engine bays and refurbishing office rooms. Our team completed the project efficiently, with minimal disruption to the daily operations of the service, while delivering high-quality results that enhanced the appearance and functionality of the premises.
Execution
The project commenced with a comprehensive site survey across multiple locations, including the Service Headquarters, Technical Service Centre, and six community fire stations: Colby Court, Glover, Farringdon, Swalwell, Byker, and Low Fell. Our experienced team identified areas requiring attention, with a primary focus on fire doors, frames, and surrounding wall areas.
In addition to refinishing and restoring the fire doors, we carried out extensive repairs, including the refitting and realignment of several fire door frames. This required careful dismantling, ensuring each frame was securely fitted and aligned for proper functionality. We also addressed any surface imperfections, repairing and preparing all affected areas to restore them to their original condition.
The remedial works involved meticulous preparation of all surfaces, followed by the application of high-quality coatings designed to enhance both the durability and appearance of the fire doors and surrounding structures. We ensured a flawless finish by following a step-by-step process that included surface cleaning, priming, and painting, ensuring long-lasting protection and aesthetic appeal.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with the fire service to ensure minimal disruption to their operations. Our team completed the work efficiently and with a focus on delivering the highest quality results, while ensuring the functional integrity of the doors and frames was preserved.
Outcome
By the end of the project, all fire doors, frames, and adjacent areas had been fully restored to a high standard, significantly enhancing both their aesthetic appearance and functionality. The refitting of the frames ensured that all doors operated smoothly, while the refinishing work provided a fresh, professional look to the fire stations and headquarters.
Our careful attention to detail, combined with a focus on delivering top-quality results, ensured minimal disruption to the daily operations of the sites.
The project was completed on schedule and to the highest standard, reinforcing the durability and professionalism of these critical facilities. The results of our work have helped to create a safer, more polished environment for staff and visitors alike.
